Memories of Adventures in Barbados.

Not very often does one encounter real adventurers who have a fearless spirit of adventure and an endearing sense of joy. This was Rex Wotton, a sailor, climber, scuba diver, and a great sport.  Rex Wotton ran the West Coast Watersports shop at Coral Reef hotel. It was just a short walk from Settlers Beach. They took hotel guest diving and on daytime and sunset cruises along the coast. He was a professional seafarer trained by the Royal Merchant Navy in all matters of navigation, sailing, diving, explosives, and marine work. Rex Wotton was just one of the most loveable Rogues one would ever meet. He had an infectious sense of fun and used it to win over every situation. He was independent at an early age and often disappeared for days at a time, to camp by Joes' river , catching fish to survive. He built campfires from coconut husk and twigs and cooked his catch with breadfruit, wild okras, plantain, and edible vines. He ate mangoes, and local berries like fat pork, and sea grapes, that grow along the beach.

One time, when a girl splashed a drink at him, he promptly threw the ice water of a wine bucket over them. When ridiculed by a comedian who made a cheeky comment about him, Rex repaid the insult by stealing away the jokers' famous green top hat. Right past security and the gatekeeper, he walked with a reckless air and his roguish beaming chuckle.

This was his manner, he did not let much pass him and typically answered the insult with a double measure of the same, but it was cloaked in grace and style. He hardly displayed anger, but it was at hand when needed.
